After a disappointing first attempt in January and a tenuous wait on the 13th of February, Barr Beacon School Cadets finally took to the skies.
With snow the previous day and heavy rain and winds forecast early on, the Cadets and Staff departed school for RAF Cosford hoping that the weather would clear enough for flying to take place. After watching a safety DVD, pupils took part in a practical training session and assessment on emergency drills for the aircraft.
And then it was time for the first six cadets to be kitted into flying suits.
When the time came to fly, the Cadets were then stage 2 kitted with Helmet and Parachute then led to the aircraft for their trip.
Each flight lasted approximately 30 minutes with the Cadets being shown the effects of the flight controls followed by an opportunity to take control of the aircraft themselves.
All the Cadets enjoyed their experience and though some felt a little queasy after the trip, all wanted to repeat the experience.
