One of our pupils has been selected to compete for England at karate! Jack in Year 10 fought off 4 opponents in the Walsall competition and in August will represent his country in the 2018 Wadokai All Nations Championship. This competition usually takes place in Japan, where karate originally developed after being invented in China. This year however, the competition takes place not so far away: in Leicester.
Jack may be on his way to Japan after all though, as there is a possibility of being selected to represent Great Britain in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Before then, he will be taking part in the European Championships in Dublin.
Jack has been practising karate since he was 4 years old and now trains for 10 hours a week, all whilst working hard for his GCSEs. He said: “I love the discipline of it, the respect all of the opponents have for each other. When I was 4, I never dreamed it would go so far. I’m very happy.”
