29 Year 10 pupils have been writing letters to German penpals. This is not only to prepare them for their GCSE exams but also for them to have fun and communicate with native speakers in a foreign language.
Our German pen pals are Class 10 at the very prestigious Villa Wewersbusch, a private boarding school located in North-West Germany. As an Apple Distinguished School, their day-to-day school life runs very differently to ours, with every pupil working on an iPad rather than in exercise books. Through this programme, both our Year 10 pupils and the Class 10 at Villa Wewersbusch are able to practise German/English with native speakers and learn more about the foreign cultures and school experiences. The opportunity for our Year 10 pupils to be able to communicate with native speakers of their own age at such a contrasting school has been a very fruitful and culturally interesting one.
Miss Pitt, in our own languages department, set up the link, having worked at the German school herself.
She said: “I would like to praise every Year 10 pupil who participated in this letter exchange for their fantastic effort. I hope that you have all found this culturally inspiring and that you have all uncovered a new-found love for communicating with others in a foreign language.”
