PC Rob Pedley knows how just one choice can make a huge difference to your life. When he decided to skip his morning coffee and go off skiing ahead of his friends he never imagined he would be fighting for his life minutes later. PC Pedley fell 240ft off a mountain, breaking his spine in four places, smashing nine ribs and puncturing both lungs – but survived to tell the tale.
He told his tale to pupils, getting them to think about their own life choices. He then made connections with the recent rise in knife crime related incidents amongst young people and how people who would not dream of being criminals can easily end up being drawn in if they make poor choices.
Here are just a few of the pupils’ comments:
“I am honestly so moved by his story and his dedication to his job, and how he talks about his accident so others can see how even one choice can affect you for life.”
“I believe that Rob’s talk today was an inspiration to everyone in the room, and it shows that dedication really pays off if you believe in yourself.”
