Two groups of students were invited to flex their journalistic muscles during two different West Bromwich Albion games. The Press Pass event was made possible through the Albion Foundation who live tweeted throughout.
The first match was on Wednesday 14th December. George Freeth (12W1) and Ben Wright (12C1) covered the West Bromwich Albion versus Swansea City match in the Premier League.
George said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for us as we are both interested in going into sports journalism. We met with David Moore, who arranges the Press Pass, a few weeks before as he came into school to put us through our paces and give us a brief taster of what we would be doing at the match. We met Kieran, another Albion representative, outside the stadium an hour before kickoff and he took us through the media entrance into the media lounge for us to prepare pre-match notes alongside professional journalists. We made our way out onto the balcony and took our seats for the game. The first half was a slow affair but the game sprung to life in the second half giving us plenty to talk about in our match notes. After the final whistle we returned to the media lounge to compile our final match report. During this, the managers of both teams came and delivered their post-match press conferences facing the questions journalists fired their way. Using our notes we were able to produce a match report which was eventually published on the Albion Foundation’s website. We personally would like to thank David and Kieran from the Albion foundation for making the experience.”
