Not all pupils are as fortunate as those at Barr Beacon. Many LGBT+ young people hear homophobic remarks every day. These experiences can have a life-long negative impact on their wellbeing: More than 25% of LGBTQ+ young people attempt suicide. Just Like Us is a charity setup to help build a world where LGBTQ+ young people live awesome lives. You can find out more here: http://www.justlikeus.org/
We are having assemblies to share the purpose behind School Diversity Week and we are raising money for Just Like Us by selling rainbow ribbons and having a General Knowledge House quiz.
At Barr Beacon we share the belief of Just Like Us: making the world a better place for LGBTQ+ people is everyone’s responsibility. If you would like to learn more about how we incorporate LGBTQ+ into the curriculum please take a look at our knowledge organiser below and read about its creation here: http://leedsbeckett.ac.uk/-/media/files/research/lgbtq-june-final.pdf?la=en
