How does Barr Beacon compare with other schools?
- We have a Progress 8 score of +0.33, which means our pupils achieved, on average, a third of a grade more than the half a million Year 11s who sat their exams in other schools across the country.
- 46% of Beacon pupils achieved the new Grade 5 in both English and maths. A massive 75% achieved the new Grade 4 in both English and maths. Whilst a new Grade 4 and 5 replace the old Grade C, 5 is what the government label a ‘strong pass’ and Grade 4 is a ‘standard pass’. We did a parent guide about the new GCSEs here: http://www.barrbeaconschool.co.uk/gcse-results-changes/
- The progress of ‘disadvantaged’ pupils is also above average at 0.08.
Our mission has always been to make sure our children are equipped for the world beyond school and having both English and maths GCSEs will always remain essential. We are delighted that three quarters of our Year 11s last year achieved the new Grade 4s or above in both subjects. Furthermore, we are really pleased with the progress of so-called ‘disadvantaged pupils’ which is also above national average. Whatever your circumstances, everyone at Barr Beacon will do everything to help you achieve.
