Since Monday 30th January, we have been running a space exclusively for Year 11 to work after school. The Bistro becomes Study Hall. Despite being strictly voluntary, we have an average of 60 pupils in attendance from 3.00pm onwards every day. One session had over 100 pupils. We provide stationery and refreshments and they just get on and work. Staff are on hand to help pupils get unstuck but the onus is on pupils to work independently – which they are doing.
Some pupil comments:
“I can’t work at home because of my phone. I don’t have it here so I can’t get distracted.”
“I work best with some friends around me. We don’t have to be talking but it’s good to have somewhere there to test me, or to check something with.”
“If I want to work on my own I can just find a corner and meet my mates later.”
“It’s the best thing. I’m actually revising.”
