Yesterday we made the final trek to Colca Canyon where we saw lots of condors! It was amazing to see these birds, just breathtaking! The canyon was also impressive being one of the deepest in the world.
We are off to Arequipa today for our final days of shopping and visiting the hot springs.
We start to make the journey back home Monday!
Everyone is well and in high spirits due to finishing this today. We have a Trek tomorrow then start making our way back on the Sunday.
Peru update: Today we finished a project! It was our final day of project work. We helped move and mix the cement for the floor of this building which is attached to the local doctor’s surgery. This will be a maternity unit for the village.
For the next three days we are continuing project work around the village.
Peru update: Yesterday we were working on digging foundations for a registry office. Everyone worked so hard!
We then had a tour of the village of Pinchollo where we saw a 500 year old church and all the projects that we will be working on. Today we are starting project work again.
Peru update: Arrived at Camp Colca yesterday where we were welcomed by the locals with a traditional dance of love!
The men make small gifts from the reeds and also replace any rotten parts of the island to stop it from sinking! Off to project work today. We move on tomorrow.
The women on the island make textiles items such as embroidered cushions and blankets, telling the story of the islands.
Peru update: Yesterday we went to the Uros Islands where they make and anchor the islands. Fantastic to see how they make it float and anchor the whole island.
Peru update: Arrived at Lake Titicaca yesterday evening and we are going on a boat to Uros island today. Tomorrow we are doing project work in an orphanage where we have some presents to give.
Our expedition consists of 6 pupils, 1 teacher and 1 marmalade-loving bear. Paddington returns home to Peru…
Five days after they left camp, our intrepid World Challenge team arrive at Machu Picchu.

Peru update: Day 3 of the Salkantay Trek (to Machu Picchu).
Message from Peru, before they embark on their big hike to Machu Picchu and out of mobile phone signal: “It’s 3:20am and we are just setting off for the Salkantay trail, Machu Picchu! Unsure what signal will be like for the next 5 days but will be in contact when we can.”

Tomorrow we do a mini trek to prepare us for the big trek to Machu Picchu!
Camp projects have included plastering, making concrete, laying foundations for a community house and brick laying.
Our Camps International group in Peru is building a community centre. Today: getting the concrete in the right place.
Off to Camp Moray today, which is 2 hour transfer from Cusco. We are supporting a new community to build a guest house and toilets. We are at Camp Moray until Wednesday 17th July where we return to Cusco to then start our Salkantay Trek!
